
This week, the defense rested in Trump's New York hush-money case. The jury will begin deliberation in a few days. Conviction aside, the question is whether or not the case will impact voter's behavior this election season. A poll [from ABC news](https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/6-months-out-tight-presidential-race-trump-biden-poll/story?id=109909175) earlier this month found that 80% of Trump supporters would continue to support Trump if convicted. Yikes. According to that same ABC news poll, Trump is currently leading Biden 46% to 44% nationally. It looks like the 2024 election is going to be close.

In other news, Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito [reportedly](https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/16/us/justice-alito-upside-down-flag.html?wpisrc=nl_fix) had an upside down flag flying at his house following the 2020 election. The upside down flag was a trend started by Trump supporters who believed President Biden had stolen the election. The upside down flag at Alito's house was flying on January 17th, 2021. According to Alito, he had "no involvement whatsoever in the flying of the flag." It was apparently his wife who hung the flag.

According to another [New York Times report](https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/22/us/justice-alito-flag-appeal-to-heaven.html), Justice Alito had another flag flying at his second home on Long Beach Island. The flag was an "Appeal to Heaven" flag, which was used by rioters during the January 6th protests.

Alito has yet to recuse himself from the two upcoming Supreme Court cases involving Trump.

This week, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer held a [vote](https://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_votes/vote1182/vote_118_2_00182.htm) on a bipartisan border security bill. The bill failed to pass. Republicans called it a political move, which it probably is because Republicans have been attacking Biden hard over the border. President Biden [commented](https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2024/05/23/statement-from-president-joe-biden-on-senate-vote-on-the-bipartisan-border-security-agreement/) on the bill, saying it shows "Republicans do not care about securing the border or fixing America’s broken immigration system."

Bad news this week. According to the [Associated Press](https://apnews.com/article/trump-trial-classified-documents-judge-cannon-6f910c3cbe8d91e493ab5fb13019d45f), Trump's trial in Florida has been delayed indefinitely. On Tuesday, judge Aileen Cannon canceled the May 20th trial date and announced it would be "imprudent" to set a new trial date right now. Yikes.

The trial is over Trump's mishandling of classified documents. According to [prosecutors](https://apnews.com/article/trump-justice-department-indictment-classified-documents-miami-8315a5b23c18f27083ed64eef21efff3), Trump illegally held onto over 300 classified documents since leaving office and refused to return some of the documents. He may have even allgedly shown some of the classified documents to visitors at Mar-a-Lago.

Now the case is delayed indefinitely. It's looking more and more likely that Trump's lawsuits won't be decided until after the election. Trump's Supreme Court case is still in the works. His Georgia trial is still on-going, as is his trial in Washington D.C.

Last Week, Senator Tim Scott said something that blew my mind. He said he wants to overturn the SEC's rule on climate disclosure.

"The SEC’s final climate disclosure rule threatens economic opportunity across the country, and it must be overturned," Scott said in an interview with [Fox Business](https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/tim-scott-introduce-measure-overturn-controversial-sec-climate-rule). "Over and over again, SEC Chair Gensler has disregarded the real-world impacts of his aggressive regulatory agenda in his dogged pursuit of left-wing political priorities. This rule is no exception"

This is **crazy.**

First of all, the climate rule, which you can read more about [here](https://www.sec.gov/news/press-release/2024-31), would actually be beneficial to investors. The new rule requires public companies to be more transparent to investors about climate change's financial impact on their business. This is a huge win for consumers and investors. It forces public companies to actually be held accountable for their emissions. And it forces businesses to wake up to the fact we're living in a climate change world. You can't hide from it anymore.

Second, this attack from Tim Scott is just another attempt by Republicans to try to impede any efforts to stop climate change. This effort by Scott is just the latest in a string of attacks from Republicans on the environment. Keep peddling for big polluters, Republicans. And we'll keep voting blue.
